Practical security, without the theatre.
BootState Labs is being built to help UK small businesses understand their security position and make sensible improvements in the right order.
Why BootState Labs exists
Small businesses are often caught between two unhelpful extremes: security advice that is too vague to act on, and enterprise-style programmes that are too complex or expensive for the problem at hand.
BootState Labs is being designed around proportionate assessment: establish the current state, use evidence where possible, be explicit about what cannot be verified, and turn findings into practical priorities.
Built from real operational experience
The business is being developed from practical experience operating websites, e-commerce systems, hosting, DNS, email and day-to-day online services. Where specialist cybersecurity judgement is required, the service model is designed to include qualified professional review rather than pretending automation can replace it.
What we value
- Clarity: findings should be understandable to the person who has to act on them.
- Proportion: not every missing header or uncertain result is a crisis.
- Evidence: distinguish what was observed from what was reported or could not be verified.
- Restraint: do not claim certainty that the assessment cannot support.
- Useful next steps: a report should help a business decide what to do next.
